A morning well spent

While Papa took Liliana to the market to get some things for our breakfast this morning, Marta and I started  making  our Christmas cards. I wanted to make them using a very simple technique (and a not too messy one) this year  so Marta could participate, and maybe even Liliana. So I chose one of the oldest forms of printmaking, also called rubbing art. Thinking of it, that was actually very appropriate because both Marta and Liliana are very much enjoying playing with crayons at the moment. I made a rudimentary texture underlay out of ordinary paper and we were off. It took Marta two or three tries to get the hang of it and keep the crayon in the right position so not to make a hard line. After she “mastered” the technique it was pure fun. Marta was particularly delighted to choose the colours for each picture. Even though sometimes I thought ” ugh, those three colours are  never going to work together’  most of the pictures turned out  surprisingly beautiful. So I learned to hold back my experienced designer judgement and just went with the fun. I cut out the pictures and now we will glue each of them  onto a card to finish them off. It was great fun to do an artistic activity this morning, but more than that I enjoyed the time that Marta and I spent together on our own and all the attention I could give to her only.

 

 

Enquanto o Papa levou a Liliana ao mercado para comprar algumas coisas para o nosso café da manhã eu e a Marta começamos a fazer nossos cartões de Natal. Eu queria uma técnica simples e que não fizesse muita sujeira esse ano para que a Marta, e talvez até a Liliana, pudessem participar. Eu acabei escolhendo uma das formas mais antigas de impressão também chamada… e agora? Não sei o nome em português! Bom, funciona colocando o papel por cima de uma matriz e passando um lápis por cima. A escolha dessa técnica até que funcionou muito bem porque tanto a Marta quanto a Liliana estão curtindo muito brincar com lápis de cêra. Eu fiz uma matriz muito simples feita de papel comum mesmo. Depois da terceira tentativa a Marta pegou o jeito de segurar o lápis de modo a não fazer uma linha, mas sim uma área homogênea de cor e a partir daí foi pura diversão. Uma das coisas que ela mais gostou de fazer foi escolher as cores para cada figura. Apesar de algumas vezes eu pensar ‘ui, essas três cores juntas nunca vão funcionar!’ a maioria da figuras ficaram muito bonitas. Então eu aprendi a segurar o meu julgamento de designer experiente e me deixei levar pela diversão. Agora eu cortei as figuras e depois vamos colá-las nos cartões para terminar. Foi um prazer passar a manhã trabalhando numa atividade artística, mas mais do que isso eu curti mesmo foi o tempo que passei a sós com a filhota mais velha e a atenção dedicada somente a ela!
