French Cheesemaker’s smock

And here’s Warren modelling his birthday gift. Doesn’t look bad, does it?

I’m very pleased with the pattern and so is Warren. This is exactly the kind of shirt he likes to wear.  When I first cut out the pieces I thought the smock was going to turn out humongous, but as it happens the only modification I needed to do was to take 2 inches (5 cm) off the sleeves. However,  it wasn’t so easy to put it all together but after a few attempts and a couple of rip-offs it all came together nicely. There are lots of room for improvement and I hope I’ll be able to do a better job out of the second one. I thought doing the gathering for the neck and placing the neckband was particularly tricky and need to work on making it more uniform.  I’ve learned that basting is the best friend of the inexperienced sewer!

This pattern is called French Cheesemaker Smock (#102) and is from Folkwear and the instructions were very clear to follow.  And do they have a whole collection of very interesting patterns? Oh, I’m tempted!

 

 

E aqui está o Warren vestindo seu presente de aniversário. Nada mal, né?

Eu fiquei muito satisfeita com esse molde, e o Warren também. Esse é exatamente o tipo de roupa que ele gosta. Quando eu cortei o tecido eu achei qua a blusa ia ficar enorme, mas na verdade a única modificação que eu precisei fazer foi tirar 5 centímetros das mangas. No entanto não foi tão fácil assim montar a blusa, mas depois de algumas tentativas e duas desmanchadas ela ficou boa. Ainda tenho muito o que melhorar e espero fazer um melhor trabalho de costura na segunda blusa. Eu achei o franzido da gola particularmente difícil de se fazer e preciso praticar para que ele fique uniforme. Eu aprendi que o alinhavo é o melhor amigo da costureira inexperiente!
